Motability is a registered UK charity which helps disabled people to become more mobile. As a 1st Class Supplier, Fred Coupe can help you use the Higher Rate Mobility Component of your Disability Living Allowance (HRMC of DLA) or War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement (WPMS) to lease or buy a car - or a powered wheelchair or scooter.

And you don't even have to be a driver in order to qualify for Motability. You can obtain a vehicle as a passenger and propose up to two other people as drivers providing you receive HRMC of DLA.

MOTABILITY OFFERS THE FOLLOWING THREE SCHEMES TO ENABLE YOU TO OBTAIN A VEHICLE:

Three year contract hire scheme for new vehicles
Four or five year hire purchase scheme for new vehicles
Two or three year hire purchase scheme for used vehicles

Under the contract hire scheme, you will never actually own the car, but the cost of maintenance, insurance, servicing and roadside assistance are all included in your payments. If you opt for hire purchase, you will own the car at the end of the agreement, but all other running costs will be your responsibility. HELP IN CHOOSING YOUR VEHICLE
Fred Coupe will give you all the assistance you require when choosing your Motability vehicle. But it helps to bear in mind some useful tips.

Define your needs - then choose a vehicle which will be suitable for the whole term of your agreement.
Safety and access are important considerations (door width, boot height and adequate storage all play a part in a good choice of vehicle).
Check the driving position - and always take a test drive to ensure comfort and ease. Please also consider the needs of anyone who may regularly give assistance to getting you or your equipment in and out of the vehicle.
There is a wide choice of special adaptations available to overcome the problems of driving with a disability, for example, hand controlled brakes and accelerators, raised or rotating seats, roof mounted wheelchair hoists etc. Your Motability Specialist will be able to help and advise on all these adaptations.
